We are a one-form entry primary school with nursery provision, located in the Derker area of Oldham. We have a friendly and caring staff and are currently planning to work more closely with Woodlands Primary Academy now that it has joined our trust, the Moor End Multi-Academies Trust. This means that there will be increasing opportunities for our pupils to use the extensive grounds at Woodlands and for us to share projects with the staff and pupils there. It also means that we will be able to share expertise across the two academies. We are closely allied to Waterhead Academy in Oldham who are a member of the Moor End Multi-Academies Trust too.
Our typical academy day is as follows:
Breakfast club starts at 08:15
Nursery session starts at 08:45 and finishes at 11:45
Pre-school session starts at 12:20 and finishes at 15:20
Formal start of academy day at 08:45 for KS1 and 09:00 for KS2
Formal finish of academy day at 15:15 (15:10 for reception)
Break time - 10:30 until 10:45 for Y1, Y2, Y5 and Y6, 10:45 until 11:00 for Y3 and Y4
Lunch time - 12:00 until 13:00 for KS1, 12:30 until 13:15 for KS2
After school clubs will run on most evenings but timing will depend upon the club
We have an assembly every day at 09:10 which is led by the academy principal on a Monday when she sets the theme for the week. The Tuesday assembly is held in the classroom and usually is a form of ‘circle time’ and Wednesday is a singing assembly in the hall. On a Thursday assemblies are held by key stage (key stage 1 = years one and two and key stage 2 – years three to six). Thursdays are also the day when the principal invites several pupils to her special tea. The week finishes with a celebration assembly on a Friday led by the acting vice-principal. This is a time to recognise those pupils who have shown positive character traits such as self-belief, hard work and effort throughout the week.
Every morning all classes from Reception to Year Two will split into their Read Write Inc groups between 09:30 and 10:30. Pupils in these year groups who have ‘graduated’ from RWI will be taught English together. Later in the morning (Mon to Thu only) Y5 and Y6 pupils will split into their Fresh Start groups (for those that require additional support) and pupils who do not require this will work together on exciting projects.
Y4 pupils attend swimming once per week on a Monday morning and all pupils have PE at least one a week.
